Re-setting your copy of the BDE (Borland Database Engine)
If you get an error mentioning
"MaxFileHandles," you will have to do a little
"tweaking" manually to get everything working together.
- Point to the "Start" button at the bottom left of your screen.
- Click on "Find"
- Click on "Files or Folders"
- Type in "bdeadmin.exe" (without the quotation marks) and then click on "Find Now"
- Once the file has been found, double click on it (it will be in the bottom window, just below
where you filled in the name of the file)
- Click on the tab marked "Databases," and then, under Databases, click on "Datastart" (Note: if,
in the window, there is a "+" next to Databases, click on that plus to expand the list to see all
of the possible databases. Then click on Datastart.)
- Click on the tab marked "Configuration", on the "+" next to "System," and then on "INIT"
- Find the line marked "MAXFILEHANDLES" (the 8th line). Change the number on that line to
200.
- Press <ENTER>, so that the number 200 is accepted.
- Press the "X" in the upper right portion of the window. You should get a message asking
whether to save the change. (If you do not get this message, redo this process.)
- Continue. Go enjoy DATASTARTTM. Please let us know if you run into any other problems. (james@datastart.org)
