Fixing the Borland Database Engine (BDE) Error
Because you had a copy of the BDE loaded by another product, DataSTART!? did not (or could not) copy over it. This procedure will take care of it.
PLEASE PRINT THIS PAGE BEFORE CONTINUING.
1. Notes:
The words "folder" and "directory" mean the same thing. (Microsoft changed their verbage with the advent of Windows95 to "folder" so they'd be more user friendly(?) and to seem more like a Mac.)
Anything in italics is a key-press or mouse click as in Start | Find tells you to go to the Start button at the bottom left of your screen, and from their go to the "Find" option.
Anything within "" tells you to type that string literally. In other words, "Hello" would tell you to type the word hello. Leave off the quotation marks.
Anything in bold is a label or folder name that you need to notice or use
Back up your machine BEFORE doing anything else. (Better safe than sorry.).
2. My Computer | DS | Data. You should START have all of the folders on your C: drive on the left, with the DS folder expanded, and the Data folder open. When all of the file names appear on the right hand side, go to the top, hold down your Shift key, and press the down-arrow until all of the files are marked.
Right-click on the marked files. Then click on Copy.
On the left side of your screen, find the folder Olddata which will be found as one of the sub-folders to DS. Right click on Olddata, and press Paste. (This way you will be protecting all of your existing data because you will be installing all of the demo data as a part of this process.) If prompted to do say, say overwrite all.

DataSTART!? should work properly START.
If you have been using Paradox, double check to make sure that can read your files. If it has any problems, rename the old_idapi folder back to idapi. Otherwise leave it alone. Once you are sure that all of your other applications are working properly and can find their data, you can erase old_idapi and old_bde. DON'T DO THIS UNTIL YOU ARE SURE THAT EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS.
